Fire Department

Officially organized in 1921, the Woodruff Fire Department dates back as far as the late 1800s, when local townsmen formed a bucket brigade for battling fires in the community. The brave men and women of this department, both past and present, have served Woodruff and the surrounding communities faithfully and willingly. This department strives to provide the best, most complete, and most cost effective services to our customers as possible. Our department has a rich history, of which we are all very proud.

Our Equipment

The City of Woodruff Fire Department consists of three stations. We operate a fleet of three (3) engine companies, one (1) rescue / engine, two (2) service companies, one (1) tower ladder, two (2) wildland apparatus, one (1) command vehicle, and one (1) Polaris Ranger UTV used for special events and incidents inaccesable by our larger apparatus. We also have a fire safety smoke house that is used for public fire prevention courses at our schools and during local events.

Our department is staffed with the Fire Chief who works Monday through Friday 9:00am - 6:00pm, and three firefighters who work seven days a week 9:00am - 6:00pm. The Woodruff Fire Department also has a dedicated group of over thirty (30) volunteers. Our volunteer personnel support our paid suppression members during our staffed hours, and our volunteers are solely responsible for all calls for service and any / all fire department activities during our "unstaffed" hours from 6:00pm - 9:00am.

Our Service

The department responds to approximately five hundred (500) calls for service annually. We serve the City of Woodruff and the surrounding communities in the Fire Service Area in Spartanburg County. The City of Woodruff Fire Department's fire district encompasses nearly sixty-five (65) square miles, making our call area the second largest fire district in Spartanburg County.
